From: City Of GoldenGHM&P Summer Camp Registration Opens in January
GOLDEN, Colo., Dec. 23, 2022 – Summer Camp at Golden History Museum & Park will return in 2023 for eight weeks of exciting activities.
Summer Camp at Golden History Museum & Park is a day camp for kids aged 6–12. Tucked against the foothills, just seconds from downtown Golden, camp is offered for eight weeks using a flexible half-day format, operating Monday through Friday. Most families create full-day schedules by selecting both a morning and afternoon theme.
Camp activities are hosted on the grounds of Golden History Park and campers take advantage of buildings such as the Guy Hill Schoolhouse, Pearce/Helps Cabin, blacksmith shop, and Reynolds Cabin.
Young campers (ages 6-8) can choose from the themes of Pioneer Kids, Art Explorers, Dirty Jobs, and History Mystery, while older campers (ages 9-12) that have graduated from these camps can take their learning to the next level with Frontier Explorers: Science and Engineering or Frontier Explorers: Home and Hearth. Those with theatrical interests can write, direct, and film their own silent movie during the Silent Stars camp. Silent Stars is only offered as a full-day schedule.
All camp activities are facilitated by museum staff and a dedicated group of teen volunteers. Campers will explore history through activities such as cowboy roping, gold panning, dipping candles, cooking, schoolhouse lessons, science experiments, and field trips when possible.
Full-day schedules for both age groups run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The museum also offers extended care options before and after camp.
Summer camp sessions will run weekly between June and August. For specific dates, age requirements, times, prices, and activities, visit GoldenHistory.org/camp. Registration will be available exclusively to museum members January 10 – January 23, 2023; non-members may enroll on January 24. Camp sold out early in 2022 and families are encouraged to become members for the best rates and early access.
Merit-based scholarships are awarded to children with a demonstrated interest in history and are available at GoldenHistory.org/camp. Scholarship applications are due by February 3, 2023.
Summer camp staff applications and youth volunteer applications open in late January through the City of Golden.
Golden History Museum & Park engages and inspires visitors by preserving and sharing Golden’s history.
