Performs general overhaul and repair work on automobiles, light and heavy trucks, gasoline and diesel motors, bulldozers, graders, loaders and other vehicles and equipment belonging to the City of Hot Springs; inspects completed work and test drives to ensure that the equipment is ready for return to the department; evaluates the need for replacement parts and places requests for parts with the Fleet Warehouse section; classifies parts exchanges according to recommendations for salvage, rebuilding, repair or other disposition; assists with the cleaning and policing of the assigned work bay to ensure clean and safe working conditions; prepares and maintains accurate records and reports; notes safety hazards and advises shop supervisor; responds to road service calls and makes repairs or arrangements for return of equipment to the shop; changes oil and greases vehicles; inspects equipment according to a complete checklist; replaces or repairs tires and installs them as needed; performs related work as required.

Qualifications

Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent including or supplemented by courses in auto or diesel mechanics with at least one year in the repair and maintenance of automotive vehicles and equipment; must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License within one year of hire and a clean driving record; must furnish own tools (monthly allowance provided).

DRUG TESTING: All applicants are subject to pre-employment testing; individual in this position will be subject to random testing.
