On March 15, 2022 the City Council approved a resolution extending the City's existing emergency measures until further notice to correspond with the State and County reopening guidelines. These emergency measures can be changed at any time to coincide with further revisions to the State or Los Angeles County Health Officer's Order.

Districting Changes Coming to Lomita

District formation for cities is the process in which voting district lines for City Councils are drawn and later redrawn every 10 years based on Census data. This ensures that each Councilmember represents about the same number of constituents. Make sure to follow us on social media to stay updated in our first districting process! #Districting2022 For more information, visit LomitaCity.com/Districting

Lomita Cancels November 5 General Municipal Election

At the close of the nomination period at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022, there were only three candidates running for the three positions available on the Lomita City Council. The candidates were incumbents Cindy Segawa, Mark Waronek, and James Gazeley.

Since there were no challengers for the three City Council seats, the Lomita City Council adopted a resolution to appoint the nominated city officials for another four-year term and cancel the November 8, 2022 General Municipal Election pursuant to the State Elections Code, as there are no city measures up for a vote during this cycle. This will save the City approximately $60,000 in associated costs.

On June 6, 2022, the City called for the General Municipal Election to be held for the election of three members of the City Council. The nomination period for the City Council candidates began on Monday, July 18 and was open for four weeks. The persons appointed shall take office and serve exactly as if elected at a municipal election for the office.

Congratulations to Cindy Segawa, Mark Waronek, and James Gazeley on your appointments!

Coffee with the Principal at Lomita Magnet

This morning, Mayor Segawa and staff attended the Coffee with the Principal assembly at Lomita Magnet to discuss back-to-school safety. Our Sheriff and Parking Enforcement teams continue to address safety violations through warnings and citations as appropriate. Some of the most hazardous safety problems occur at drop-off and dismissal times and it is very important to follow all posted signage and instructions from school administrators, crossing guards, and enforcement.

For student safety and to reduce traffic jams, parents were encouraged to park in any of the three parking lots and angle parking spaces available in Downtown Lomita and walk across the street. If you have to drive to school, do not park in the bus loading zones, double park, jaywalk, make u-turns, block water hydrants, or park by a red curb. Vehicles left unattended in the loading zones during the posted times will be ticketed.

As a final reminder, please respect our neighbors. They must be able to enter and exit their driveways at all times.

Torrance's New Airport Noise Abatement System is Live

The City of Torrance's new Airport Noise Abatement system went live on August 15, 2022. Our cities received an increase in complaints from residents living in the vicinity when the airport noise monitoring system was taken out of service last year. The City of Torrance approved reinstating a noise abatement system to enable Torrance to monitor and reduce the aircraft noise originating from Zamperini Field.

The new system includes a Community Portal called Noise Lab. Noise Lab provides a variety of information, including aircraft flights, noise levels, violations, reports and a new complaint module. Noise Lab can be found at toa.noiselab.casper.aero

Lomita residents should use this site to continue reporting their concerns regarding noise at the airport.
