Lomita Deputies Provide Lemonade Stand for Young Entreprenuer

When our Community Resource Deputies learned of a young entrepreneur who wanted to participate in Lemonade Day Lomita but couldn't afford to make their own stand, our deputies took it upon themselves, bringing tools and recycled wood from home, to construct a lemonade stand for the young aspiring business leader! It was dropped off at City Hall for use during the Lemonade Event.

Thank you Deputies Redenbaugh and Kellogg for donating your time to support our community!

Street Sweeping Changes Coming in the Fall

The City's Public Works team manages Lomita's contract to provide street sweeping services throughout Lomita.  The current contract with R.F. Dickson is set to expire in September and in preparation for a new contract for this service, the City Council has approved new street sweeping routes after undertaking a comprehensive review of the current street sweeping services provided to the community.

The anticipated installation and replacement of signs reflecting the new street sweeping parking restrictions will be taking place in the fall. The City will allow time for residents to adjust to the new routes and schedules by providing a grace period before issuing street sweeping citations.

With these new routes, sweeping frequency in some areas will be reduced, conflicts with other services (such as trash collection) will be minimized and additional parking will be available in the City's most impacted areas during sweeping times. To learn more, view the proposed street sweeping schedules, and determine the priority category for your area, visit our website at https://lomitacity.com/street-sweeping-changes/.

Street Improvement Project Update

The street reconstruction project is in progress. Water main breaks caused unforeseen delays, however major paving efforts were completed by July 1. This week, the contractor has been striping, adjusting valves and manholes and cleaning up the site with the expectation that all work will be completed by the end of July.

This project, approved by the City Council earlier this year, represents more than $3 million in investment to continue to push toward the City Council’s goal of improving the overall condition of the City’s street infrastructure. Many of the areas covered in this project require in-depth pavement rehabilitation or full reconstruction of the roadway surface. The current work is partially funded through the City's local revenue measure approved by voters in 2020 (Measure L) and is focused on high-priority areas in the northern portion of the City (zones C and F).

For updated information on this project or for questions or concerns related to the construction, visit our website www.LomitaCity.com or contact the City's Public Works Department at [email protected] or 310-325-7110.
