Welcome to our City Newsletter!
Greetings!
This February we are celebrating with various Black History Month events and programming, as well as a 'Pawlentine's Day' pet adoption event!
Our efforts to address homelessness in Long Beach remains the central focus for the City continuing immediate ways to respond to homelessness in our community. This has allowed us to open an additional Winter Shelter this month in an effort to increase access to critical shelter for people experiencing homelessness in Long Beach.
We want to take a moment to thank and acknowledge the 250+ volunteers that assisted with our Homelessness PIT Count on Thursday, January 26. We couldn't have done it without all our staff and volunteers.

Additional Winter Shelter Doubling City's Capacity to Open in West Long Beach in February
We will open an additional Winter Shelter this month in an effort to increase access to critical shelter and resources for people experiencing homelessness in Long Beach. The new Winter Shelter will open at Silverado Park in West Long Beach and will operate in partnership with Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority and First to Serve Outreach Ministries, the nonprofit that currently also operates the City’s other Winter Shelter in East Long Beach, which opened in December 2022.
