Summer is officially here! We are less than two weeks away from Fourth of July weekend and we have important updates to share. We want everyone to have a great festive time with friends and family, but most importantly we're asking the community to celebrate safely. Please do not light fireworks, they are illegal in Long Beach. We have some tips of alternative ways to celebrate, as well as a list of professional firework shows happening.
Many City facilities and services will be closed or impacted for the Fourth of July holiday. We have a list of holiday closures inside this issue.
To officially kick-off the summer we are inviting everyone to come out to the grand opening of our newest beach attraction, an inflatable aquatic playground known as the “Wibit,” at Alamitos Beach, Saturday, June 25.
ICYMI: Our Health Department is now vaccinating anyone 6 months of age and older. The City expanded its COVID-19 vaccine eligibility by offering the Moderna vaccine to children 6 months to 5 years of age, as well as the Pfizer vaccine to children 6 months to 4 years of age.

City Offers Tips to Celebrate Safely Over Fourth of July Weekend
We are encouraging residents and visitors to celebrate safely this Fourth of July weekend to ensure everyone has an enjoyable and safe holiday. All personal fireworks are prohibited within Long Beach city limits and residents can expect ongoing citywide enforcement of the City’s fireworks ordinance.

City of Long Beach Offers COVID-19 Vaccines for Children Ages 6 Months and Older
As of Friday, June 24, our Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services will began vaccinating anyone 6 months of age and older. The City expanded its COVID-19 vaccine eligibility by offering the Moderna vaccine to children 6 months to 5 years of age, as well as the Pfizer vaccine to children 6 months to 4 years of age.
Long Beach Health Department Announces Measure US Community Grant Opportunities to Support Summer Youth Programming
The Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services is launching its first disbursements of Measure US funds via two rounds of community grant opportunities that will support youth development. A total of $225,000 will be available to provide summer programs for children and young adults between the ages of 8 and 24 in Long Beach.
Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine to Offer Free Summer Food Service Program for Children June 21 through August 26
For the 43rd year in a row, the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine is offering the United States Department of Agriculture Summer Food Service Program to provide free, nutritious meals to Long Beach children and youth throughout the summer months.
Long Beach Public Library Invites Community to Virtual Talks with Bestselling Authors
The Long Beach Public Library is launching a series of virtual talks in July featuring bestselling authors from around the world. The featured writers and thought leaders will cover a wide range of fiction and nonfiction genres.
Long Beach Libraries to Offer Expanded Programming for Teens
The Long Beach Public Library is expanding its programming for teens at several branch locations. The summer and after-school programs will add a variety of enrichment activities for youth ages 12 and older with a strong focus on wellbeing, creativity, STEAM learning and collaborative interaction.
Southwest Airlines Launches Daily Flights Connecting Long Beach to Nashville
Southwest Airlines recently announced that it will begin offering daily, nonstop flights from Long Beach Airport to Nashville International Airport, with service set to start on Nov. 6, 2022. Tickets are available now at Southwest.com.
Help Shape New Zoning Regulations in Central Long Beach!
Join the City of Long Beach for a series of in-person open house events as part of its Zone In: City Core initiative, an effort to update zoning regulations along the Anaheim Street and Pacific Coast Highway commercial corridors and adjacent neighborhoods.

The City is also welcoming feedback through the Zone In: City Core survey, which is available in English, Spanish and Khmer. The survey will remain open through August 19, 2022.
