City of Malden - Hydrant Flushing Sunday - Wards 1 and 2 Affected

Government and Politics

July 23, 2022

From: City of Malden

Due to lower water main disinfectant level at the Department of Public Works (DPW) the Water Utilities Department will flush nearby hydrants beginning at 10 PM Sunday July 24, 2022, and possibly at 8 AM Monday July 25 as well for several hours. The flushing will occur in Ward 1; however, discoloration has also been observed in Ward 2 in the past.

If discolored water is experienced, running of cold water is recommended as flushing at a hydrant can disturb normal flow patterns in the water mains. If discolored water is drawn into the home or business, flush a cold tap for a few minutes, up to 15 minutes. As a precaution, prior to using hot water run the cold water tap to ensure discolored water is not drawn into the hot water tank. You could also experience a drop in water pressure as well that should not last more than 4 hours.

If discolored water or an extended water pressure drop persist in in your home or business please call the Water Utilities Department:
Mike Neville- Superintendent 781-873-9225 Larry Durkin – Director 781-870-7258.
