The City of Modesto celebrated the completion of Phase One of the State Route 132 West Project on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at the Rosemore Bridge.

The ribbon-cutting event centers on the project that began in December of 2019. The project constructed a new 3.5-mile expressway alignment to relieve traffic congestion along SR-132. The $100 million project has been in the planning phase for over 60 years.

“As a child, I remember the energy and excitement while discussing this project around my grandparent’s dinner table,” said City of Modesto Mayor Sue Zwahlen. “It is amazing to see a project that has been 60 years in the making finally come to life.”

Speaker representatives of the ribbon-cutting event will include Modesto Mayor Sue Zwahlen, Executive Director Stanislaus Council of Governments, Rosa De León Park, Stanislaus Council of Governments, Terry Withrow, Former District 4 Council Member, Bill Zoslocki, Josh Harder District Representative, Briana Gonzalez, Caltrans District 10 Director Dennis T. Agar, California Transportation Commission Chair, Lee Ann Eager, District 5 Council Member, Jenny Kenoyer and District 2 Council Member, Tony Madrigal.

The long-awaited project finally happened because of the partnership and collaboration between many agencies.

“Caltrans District 10 is proud of our association with the SR-132 West project and our partnerships with the City of Modesto, Stanislaus County, and the local council of governments for seeing it come to fruition,” said Caltrans District 10 Director Dennis T. Agar. “A project of this magnitude requires cooperation, and we celebrate that collaboration as much as the completion of this beautiful highway.”
