Animal Control Board: One vacancy for an animal owner, to serve an unexpired term ending on September 13, 2024

The Animal Control Board is comprised of five members who must be New Smyrna Beach residents. No member may serve more than two consecutive terms unless waived by the City Commission. The Board must consist of a licensed veterinarian, a representative of the Southeast Volusia Humane Society, two animal owners and a citizen from the City who does not own an animal. The board recommends to the City Commission rules and regulations pertaining to operation of animal control facilities, standards, and procedures for enforcement and regulation. This is a Board that provides a very valuable service and meets quarterly in the City Commission Chambers.

Historic Preservation Commission: One vacancy, to serve a three year term expiring on May 14, 2025

The Historic Preservation Commission is composed of seven members that serve three-year terms at the pleasure of the City Commission. Members must be New Smyrna Beach residents. If possible, members must be professionals in the fields of architecture, history, architectural history, archeology or other history-related fields such as urban planning, American studies, American civilization, cultural geography or cultural anthropology.  Laypersons with special interest, experience or knowledge in any of those fields must make up the balance. The City Commission recommends designation of historic districts, landmarks and sites; advises on historic preservation; coordinates the City preservation work with federal, state and county governments and other city departments; etc. The Commission meets quarterly at 5:30 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers.
