Gorgeous weather. Beautiful skies. The I-4 Express Lanes are open. The possibilities are endless. Seize this day – go do the thing you’ve been putting off. Tell someone what you really think. Make the change you want to see instead of just lamenting about it. Do it. Do it now.

Changing of the Guard – Orlando Style

In case you missed it, this week Orlando Police Department Chief Orlando Rolón announced he will be retiring this year after 30 years of being a police officer. Although Chief Rolón will be missed, Mayor Dyer was proud to announce that Deputy Chief Eric Smith would become the next OPD Chief.

Deputy Chief Smith's roots are deep in this community, calling Orlando his hometown for more than 30 years. He started out as a UCF student and football player, and he's been an Orlando police officer for 27 years. He is committed to having officers work alongside residents to help create safer neighborhoods.

Congrats Chief Smith, we look forward to seeing your work with residents, community leaders and business owners to keep Orlando safe and inclusive for all.

And that’s not all folks, the Orlando Fire Department has also announced Mayor Dyer’s appointment of their new chief, Charlie Salazar, from Dallas, Texas. He has nearly three decades of fire service experience, including currently serving as Executive Deputy Chief with the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department. He is expected to start his new role in late July and we are excited for his future plans for the department.

These Kidz Deserve All the Pomp and Circumstance

We are so proud of our incredible graduating seniors from the Parramore and Holden Heights Kidz Zones who will soon be heading to college. This year we have a record of 45 graduates to honor and 19 scholarships will be awarded for a total of $28,000 for our graduates.

We are happy to celebrate their accomplishments and the hard work, despite all the challenges they faced during the last few years.

A true testament to the support and impact our youth programs have in our community. Join us in celebrating our future leaders! Check out their smiling faces on our Instagram account!
