CITY OF ORMOND BEACH COULD RECEIVE A $340 MILLION INVESTMENT TO EXPEDITE THE I-95 AT US-1 INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Ormond Beach — January 30, 2023 — Today, Governor DeSantis announced the Moving Florida Forward initiative to expedite transportation projects over the next four years. If passed by the legislature, this proposal would invest $4 billion of general revenue, redirect an average of $131 million annually to the State Transportation Work Program, and leverage additional funding over the next four years for a total of $7 billion to strengthen Florida’s transportation infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of people that rely on Florida’s roadways.

Mayor Bill Partington is proud to announce that upon successful passage of the legislature, the City of Ormond Beach and Volusia County will be awarded $340 million of these funds towards the I-95 at US-1 Interchange, a major local infrastructure project aimed at combatting congestion, improving safety, and ensuring a more resilient transportation system.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for Ormond Beach and Volusia County to make a significant impact on our transportation system," said Mayor Partington, who attended the initiative’s announcement in Auburndale, FL. "We are grateful for the support of Governor Ron DeSantis and FDOT and are excited to move forward with this transformative project far ahead of any completion schedule we could have imagined."

The project, which is listed as number 20 on the Moving Florida Forward initiative, will redesign and rebuild the I-95 interchange at US-1, which has been operating under the original design for nearly 50 years. This interchange and the roadways it serves are consistently some of the most dangerous in Volusia and Flagler Counties, with 70-80 accidents over the past three years.

The City Commission and City Staff, under the guidance of Maryam Ghyabi-White of Ghyabi Consulting & Management, have been working tirelessly to secure funding for this project and are thrilled that it has come to fruition. The city will continue to work closely with FDOT to ensure the successful completion of this project.

"This project will have a lasting impact on our residents and visitors, and we are committed to making sure it is executed efficiently and effectively," said Mayor Partington. "I can't wait to see the positive changes and safety improvements this project will bring to Ormond Beach and Volusia County."
