City Council

City Apology-Walk of Remembrance. Council Member Chaps Poduri read the City’s Apology for the Treatment of Chinese Settlers and Citizens at the May 14, 2022 Pacific Grove Walk of Remembrance:  Point Alones Chinese Fishing Village. Pictured at the event with Council Member Poduri are Council Members Amy Tomlinson and Joe Amelio. The Walk of Remembrance had approximately 200 participants this year, and featured moving speeches from descendants of the Point Alones Chinese Fishing Village, representatives from Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community stakeholder groups, and dignitaries from State, County and local government.

Actions taken by the City Council Special meeting on May 11, 2022, include:

- Approved Minutes of the May 4, 2022 City Council Closed Session and Regular Meetings
- Approved the Proposed Contract Amendment and Reimbursement Agreement with Rincon Consultants, Inc. based on the Scope of Work and Cost Estimate provided for preparation of a Focused Environmental Impact Report (EIR) relating to a development project located at 1661 Sunset Drive
- Received Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force Minutes: March 14, 2022
- Received Planning Commission Meeting Minutes: March 10, 2022
- Introduced and held first reading of an ordinance adopting temporary outdoor dining rules - directed that publication of the ordinance be satisfied by publication of a summary approved by the City Attorney, directed City staff to return with an update no later than December 21, 2022, and make the following changes to the ordinance as follows:  Facts (pg. 1) 2. remove the last sentence and replace with: MPWMD extended urgency ordinance No 190 on 4/18/2022 to sunset on 4/18/2023 and 5. Correct a grammatical error by removing the seventh word “is”, to read: this ordinance promotes…
- Received and approved the FY 22/23 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to include in the Operating Budget
- Approved a resolution adopting the FY22/23 SB1 Project List
- Deferred providing direction on the use of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds
- Approved a resolution - apology to the Chinese Village Community and descendants; and approved the resolution be publicly read by Councilmember Poduri at the May 14, 2022 Walk of Remembrance
