Committee Openings

Want to learn more about how your City works? The City of Paso Robles is SEEKING APPLICANTS for appointment to fill vacancies on three commissions:

Community Emergency Response Training (CERT)

Members of the North San Luis Obispo County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) responded to assist the city of Paso Robles during the January winter storm. CERT team members were available to assist in sandbagging, traffic management, and logistical support of other city functions. The next CERT training session starts February 21, 2023 and all community members are welcome to attend. Learn more and register here.

Water Bill Update

Discontinuation of water service due to non-payment will resume in February 2023. Utility accounts with past due balances that are 60+ days past will be subject to discontinuation of service. Prior to discontinuation of service, the City will make every effort to notify water customers via written notice, door hanger, and phone call. More information

Storm Damage Assistance

FEMA has approved Individual Assistance for residents and business owners who incurred damage to their homes. Are you in need of sheltering due to the storms? Business owners and farmers/ranchers use this page to report flood damages. Questions? Call 805-781-5678.

Disaster Assistance Loans Now Available

The Small Business Association is providing low-interest, long-term loans for physical and economic damage caused by the declared disaster in SLO County, more info at disasterloanassistance.sba.gov. A Disaster Recovery Center is open SLO Vets hall at 801 Grand Avenue to assist businesses of all sizes, most private nonprofit organizations, homeowners, and renters.

The next City Council meeting takes place on January 31, 2023 beginning at 6:30 PM. Residents can attend in person or listen live and view the presentations on the City's YouTube channel here

Recreation

Dance Classes

The West Coast Creative Academy’s popular dance classes for children ages three to ten will return to Centennial Park for 12-week sessions beginning February 15 and 18.  These age-appropriate classes explore jazz, hip hop, ballet and tap, offering student’s a sample of popular dance genres. Intro to Dance (ages 3-5). Saturdays at Centennial Park from 10 to 10:45 a.m./$180 + $30 supply fee.  Dance (ages 6 to 10) Wednesdays (4:30-5:30 p.m.) or Saturdays, 11 a.m. to noon/$180 for the 12-week session.  A 10% sibling discount is offered for all classes.  Learn more and register here

Paint & Lemonade Party

Go step-by-step through the process of sketching and painting two colorful flamingos on canvas using acrylics during this all-ages class.  A $10 registration plus $15 supply fee covers the cost of the paint, brushes and the canvas. $3 registration fee discount for additional family members.  Ages 4 to adult.  Children ages 4-7 may attend this class with the help of an accompanying adult.  Wednesday, February 8 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the Centennial Park Live Oak Room.  Learn more and register here

Learn the Waltz, Swing & Foxtrot

February is a month synonymous with love, and what better way to celebrate than by learning and practicing some new dance steps with your honey.  During this February class, students will be introduced to the waltz while also practicing the swing and foxtrot. All levels of experience are welcome from complete beginners to more advanced dancers. Wednesdays, February 8 to March 1 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Centennial Park Banquet Room.  Monthly registration is $67/couple.  Please note that the registration for this class is currently by partners only.  Learn more and register here

Youth Evolution Basketball

Using Youth Evolution’s progressive curriculum, this indoor this class will teach your young player important skills both on and off the court.  Classes include Level 1 (ages 4-5), Level 2 (ages 5-7) and Level 3 (ages 8-11) are available for 5-week sessions on Tuesdays afternoons, February 7 through March 7 in the Centennial Park Gym. $100 registration (includes jersey), $5 sibling discount available.  Times vary by age group.  Learn more and register here

Library

Free Tax Assistance

The Library has partnered with AARP Tax Aide again this year to provide free tax preparation and filing on Saturdays from February 4 through April 8 in the Library Conference Room. Appointments can be made by visiting www.ccfreetax.org or by calling 805-931-6308. There are no age restrictions; however, returns that have rentals or businesses with inventories or employees do not qualify for this service. Visit www.ccfreetax.org for a list of all the documents participants will need to bring to their tax appointment. Looking for a particular tax form? Library Reference Desk staff can assist with accessing and printing federal and state tax forms.

Passion for Paso: We Olive! 

Wednesday, February 6 
6-7 pm, Library Conference Room 

Learn about all things olive! Rudi Lasslett, from We Olive, will present an informative and delicious olive-oil tasting. Space is limited and registration is required for each participant. For ages 16+.

Book Group Reads: The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead 

Wednesday, February 22 
6-7 pm, Library Conference Room 

In honor of Black History Month, you are invited to join the Paso Robles City Library’s monthly book group for a discussion of The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, this #1 New York Times bestseller chronicles a young slave's adventures as she makes a desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. The Underground Railroad is both the gripping tale of one woman's will to escape the horrors of bondage and a powerful meditation on the history we all share. This title is available in various formats through the catalog. Registration is required.
