Heat Warning and Cooling Center 

An excessive heat warning is in effect through September 5 at 8:00 PM. Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures of up to 115 and abnormally warm overnight temperatures are expected, according to the National Weather Service. The City of Paso Robles is providing a temporary cooling center at City Hall for the duration of the heat wave. More info

Vacant Council Seat Filled

On August 24, Mr. Chris Bausch was unanimously appointed by the Paso Robles City Council to fill the vacant District 2 Council sea, previously represented by Maria Garcia.  Mr. Bausch is running unopposed for a 4-year term representing District 2. More info

Cannabis Forum and Survey  

The City of Paso Robles is seeking community feedback on a possible expansion of cannabis regulations. A community forum was held on August 18, presentation available here. Additional input is being sought via this Resident Survey, open through September 5, 2022. Discussions are expected to last into the fall. 

Outstanding Water Project

The Central Coast chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers has named Paso Robles’ Main West Tank Project their 2021 Outstanding Water Project. The project replaced an existing 97-year-old earthen water reservoir with a state-of-the-art tank while maintaining enough water pressure and flow to accommodate residential and Fire Department needs. The new water distribution facilities provide the City and its residents with improved water system performance and reliability.

Congressman Panetta Tours Spaceport and Tech Corridor Areas

On August 23, Congressman Jimmy Panetta toured the proposed Paso Robles Spaceport and Tech Corridor areas on a visit organized by the Government Relations Office of Cal Poly.  City staff presented the significant economic development and diversification opportunities the project presents for the community, as well as the infrastructure needs in upgrading access to the airport area.

Union/Golden Hill Detours

The intersection at Golden Hill and Union is closed for construction. Please use posted detours to avoid impacting residential neighborhoods. To lessen stress, please plan your route and departure time to account for traffic impacts. More info 

New Airport Manager

The City of Paso Robles has appointed Mark Scandalis to the post of Airport Manager, upon the retirement of Roger Oxborrow after decades of service to the City.  Mark is a Graduate Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and prior to moving to Paso Robles was employed by the cities of San Luis Obispo and San Clemente.  Scandalis officially began his new duties as Airport Manager on Monday, June 13, 2022. More info

Youth Commission

The Paso Robles Community Services Department is pleased to announce the reactivation of the Paso Robles Youth Commission following a two-and-a-half-year hiatus due to COVID-19. The Youth Commission has been expanded to allow residents between the ages of 14 and 21 who live in the 93446-zip code to participate. Do you know a young leader who would like to make a difference in our community and learn about City government in the process? Encourage them to apply today! Fall Recreation Classes Now Open

The fall lineup of classes offered through Paso Robles Recreation Services are now open for registration and include a variety of activities for all ages, from youth to seniors.  All fall classes can be viewed at prcity.com/recreationonline under the activities tab.  Scholarship applications for youth and seniors are available at prcity.com/recreation under the activities, classes & sports tab.

NEW West Coast Creative Academy

Through a new partnership with West Coast Creative Academy, Paso Robles Recreation Services will offer a slate of nine unique classes at Centennial Park several days a week from September through December including: a variety of Dance classes for ages 3-11, Musical Theatre for ages 5-14, Mini Musician for ages 5-8, Music and Movement for ages 1.5-5 and Art Around the World for ages 5-14.  Twelve-week sessions begin the week of September 5. $180/12 week session (scholarships available). NEW Doodle While You Noodle Homework Club

This new after school enrichment program is for students in kindergarten through 5th grade for after-school homework assistance and accountability.  Doodling, drawing and coloring breaks will be sprinkled throughout the afternoon to provide a creative break. Mondays, September 12-November 7 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in the Centennial Park Acorn Room.  Registration for this 8-week program is $125 per child (scholarships available).  Learn more and register here.

FREE Drop-In Basketball

Beginning Tuesday, September 6, the Centennial Park afterschool drop-in basketball program will resume in the Centennial Park Gym.  The gym will be open after school until 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for this free non-custodial activity.  Basketballs are provided for players to use.  Learn more here.

Youth scholarships are available for all recreation classes.

Destination Spaceport!

Council Chambers, 1000 Spring St. 
The Library will host a joint presentation by Henry Danielson, CISSO Technology Advisor at Cal Poly’s Cybersecurity Institute (CCI), and Paul Sloan, Economic Development Manager for the City of Paso Robles, on CubeSats and the plan for a spaceport in Paso Robles. Danielson will focus on CubeSats and the role of the PolySat lab in their production and use. Sloan will focus on the city’s progress on applying to become a spaceport and what it means for the future of the airport and the City of Paso Robles. Space is limited. Registration for each participant is required. For ages 16+ 

In-Person Preschool Story Time Is Back!

Story Hour Room 
Beginning September 7, the Paso Robles City Library returns to offering weekly in-person Preschool Story Time for ages 3-6 with Youth Services Librarian Melissa Bailey. Join her on Wednesdays for stories, movement, music, and a craft activity. Children can practice their listening and socialization skills while having lots of fun. Space is very limited so come early and secure your seat.

Foster Care Needed in Paso Robles

SLO County is currently facing an unprecedented shortage of available resource family homes to care for foster youth, 51 of whom are from Paso Robles. The two most pressing needs are for homes willing to provide short-term care as an emergency shelter home or homes willing to care for school-aged youth ages 6-18, especially teenagers. Translation Services Available

The City of Paso Robles uses a translation service to help callers more quickly. The service allows City staff to easily connect to a third-party translation service via a conference call. The service has been in use by the Police Department for some time and is now available in all departments when callers access the City’s information line at 805.227.7276.
