City Of Plainview Code Enforcement To Begin Sweeps For Nuisance Violations

Government and Politics

January 19, 2023

From: City of Plainview

The sweeps will begin in the areas north of 16th Street from Quincy Street between I-27 and Columbia Street

“This is not a punitive sweep that the City is looking to do,” says Philip Mize, Chief Building Official. “We are notifying citizens of the violations we will be addressing and will give the public time to address those concerns. Ideally, we would like to send the letter and then when we conduct the ‘sweep’, there are no violations.”

Concerted nuisance violations for the sweep include inoperable or junked vehicles, improperly parked vehicles, accumulation of rubbish such as trash, refuse, junk, lumber, and other abandoned materials, obstructed views of street corners, overgrown weeds or grass and scrap tires.

Loan-A-Tubs will be stationed at 26th Street & Quincy Street, 28th Street & Houston Street, 35th Street & Joliet Street and 16th Street & Joliet Street beginning Friday, January 20th through Friday, January 27th.

Items that will be allowed at the drop-off include: Furniture, Small Appliances, Household Items, Trash/Debris, Tree Limbs/Grass Clippings, and Electronics (no batteries) including TVs, microwaves, computers and other items considered as E-Waste. No commercial dumping will be allowed.

Letters will be sent to residents in these areas and include information on the type of code enforcement violations that will be addressed and some information about Loan-A-Tub placement.

Code Enforcement has conducted several sweeps across Plainview the past couple of years. The sweeps are organized by various sections of the City, and each sweep will cover that particular section until they have conducted sweeps across the entire City.
