GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

This position assists the deputy prosecuting attorneys with the City of Rogers, Legal Department in preparation for misdemeanor court proceedings.  This position will also assist the Senior Staff Attorney in preparation of civil cases and other duties as assigned.  In addition to other duties as assigned, this position is responsible for coordination of cases, compilation of case files, victim and witness coordination and communication, assistance with motion and order preparation and filing, issuing subpoenas, discovery compilation and compliance, and obtaining criminal histories and driving histories when necessary.  The selected applicant must pass a criminal background check, and either have or obtain his or her ACIC certification.  This position requires efficient, clear, and cordial communication with the public, Rogers Police Department, City department heads, attorneys, and the Courts.  Maintaining confidentiality of case file information is essential to the position.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-Responsible for coordination of case files, and preparation of documentation necessary for court proceedings.

-Responsible for preparation of documents used in civil proceedings.

-Performs all aspects of secretarial duties.

-Promotes positive public image through excellent customer service.

-Ensures that all necessary witnesses are available and prepared for trial, and addresses their questions and concerns.

-Issues subpoenas.

-Coordinate with other governmental departments to effectuate the smooth flow of information.

-Distributes discovery information and plea offers.

-Calendar victim and witness meetings with the deputy prosecuting attorneys, and calendar court dates.

-Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc, plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement. 

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
