GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Recreation Specialist provides administrative support to the Parks Department Director and works collaboratively with all other staff to perform department operations and assure that they meet the principles and objectives of the City of Rogers. An integral part of their responsibilities is to assist the recreational programmers. This could include scheduling of leagues, organization of scorekeepers and referees. This person would assist programmers and be able to program an activity if asked to.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-Takes reservations for rent/use of Parks facilities including, but not limited to, pavilions, athletic fields, buildings, aquatics facility, and equipment.

-Serves in a leadership role in the coordination of community special events, including, but not limited to, the City Fireworks Display, Frisco Days, and the Mayor’s Easter Egg Hunt.

-Assists with payroll functions for the department.

-Assists Operations Manager, Parks Director, Assistant Director, and Parks Superintendent, with office-related tasks including, but not limited to, copying, filing, answering telephone, preparing deposits, running errands, and directing special projects as assigned.

-Creates and modifies documents using Microsoft Office.

-Performs general clerical and secretarial functions.

-Promotes positive public image through excellent customer service.

-Performs related duties as assigned by Mayor or Department Director.

- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 3 years related experience and/or training, and 1 to 6 months related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence. ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization. ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
