Update on the Animal Shelter
Shelter status: Animal Services staff deep cleaned the facility in preparation for the roach pesticide treatment on Thursday evening. The treated area of the building must be empty for 48 hours before anyone can return. After those 48 hours have passed, staff will reclean the facility before officially moving back in.

120 dogs are in isolated part of building with no evidence of roaches in area. Dogs are safe to stay in the area during treatment because it is sealed away from the treated areas.
60 dogs are in temporary housing facilities.
62 dogs are in short-term fosters.

Clarification: We would like to clarify information regarding a recent post on the City’s Facebook page concerning shelter capacity. This post was intended to give insight into the current capacity of the shelter and to thank the community for their help during this emergency. We apologize if the post was misconstrued as saying all the animals have been permanently relocated; this was not the intent of the post. The City is extremely appreciative of all of the people and organizations that have stepped up in this time of need to help with temporary fosters and relocations of animals.

What’s next: The shelter will continue to be treated for pests moving forward to ensure this roach problem does not resurface.
