From: City of Siloam SpringsBeginning August 1, 2022, the large recycling roll-off containers in front of the Transfer Station will be moved inside the gates. Recycling drop-off will only be available during transfer station business hours (Monday through Friday 7:30 am – 3:30 pm and Saturday 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.).
We’ve struggled with maintaining clean recycling with these self-service containers. The City of Siloam Springs has an exceptional recycling program, with very few loads rejected (yes- recycling materials can be rejected by our vendors!) This is because of a low level of contamination. For a load to be accepted for recycling there must be less than 5% contamination.
With curbside recycling our drivers sort and reject materials not acceptable for recycling at the curb of the house/business. These self-serve recycling containers have become terribly contaminated with trash and non-recyclable materials. To have clean loads for our recycling vendors, City staff must hand sort the large containers, picking out all trash. This is a project we cannot continue to complete, as staff members are needed in other areas and tasks.
Therefore, the large recycling containers will be moved inside the gate at the Transfer Station for use during business hours only. The City of Siloam Springs Transfer Station is located at 1108 E. Ashley St.
