Community invited to meet selected firm for Ken McDonald Golf Course management, operations

Meet the CourseCo team at three open houses; online survey open Jan. 10 - Feb. 7.

Tempe, AZ – Tempe community members and golf enthusiasts are invited to come meet CourseCo and learn about its proposal for Ken McDonald Golf Course management and operations at three open houses on Jan. 10. An online survey will be open from Jan. 10 through Feb. 7 for the community to submit comments about the course.

In March 2022, the Tempe City Council unanimously authorized city staff to begin negotiating with CourseCo for Ken McDonald and/or Rolling Hills course management. The company was chosen through an RFP process that sought to find an experienced firm to enter a land lease in order to broaden and improve playing experiences as well as sustain the city’s commitment to community-based golf. The course is not being sold.

Three public open houses on Tuesday, Jan. 10, will allow for community members to meet the CourseCo team and ask questions. The same information will be presented at all three meetings, and the virtual open house will be recorded and available online following the meeting.

Virtual Meeting: Tuesday, Jan. 10 at noon.

An important objective in creating a public-private partnership is to see that significant needed capital improvements can be made, including the future renovation of the clubhouse. After the three open houses, a public survey will be open at tempe.gov/forum through Feb. 7 to gather community feedback on potential future priorities for the course.

CourseCo’s proposal includes assuming responsibility for all operations, maintenance and future capital improvement projects. The firm has a 32-year history of managing golf properties with a focus on municipal and daily fee courses in the western United States.

Following the public involvement process and conclusion of negotiations, a lease agreement for Ken McDonald could be drafted for the City Council’s consideration at a future public meeting.

Tempe has been offering value-driven, community-based golf for more than 50 years. Enjoyed by Tempe community members and visitors, the city’s public courses offer fun and challenging golf experiences for various ages and skill levels.
