Food & Necessities Drive brings in about 2,000 pounds of donations for those in need

Nov. 16, 2022
TEMPE, AZ - Tempe businesses, workforce members and residents came together to donate a truckload of support for those in need.

People dropped off about 2,000 pounds of non-perishable food, new socks and underwear, hygiene supplies, toiletries like shampoo and more to about 30 different business locations throughout the city as part of the Citywide Food and Necessities Drive.

Donations benefit Tempe Community Action Agency and Threadz teen clothes closet as well as the city's HOPE homeless outreach and CARE 7 crisis response programs. Organizers included the City of Tempe, Downtown Tempe Authority, Tempe Chamber of Commerce and Tempe Tourism Office.

The City of Tempe Municipal Utilities Department made this event possible by allowing drivers who normally pick up garbage to instead collect donations. The crew brought all the goods to Tempe Community Action Agency for sorting and distribution yesterday, Nov. 15, just in time to restock food pantry shelves for the holidays, add inventory to the teen clothes closets and fill up HOPE and CARE 7 vans serving those experiencing homelessness.
