CALL TO ARTISTS! Check out these upcoming Public Art opportunities

The arts are flourishing in Tempe. From live music to public art walks to profound gallery experiences, arts and culture help shape the character of the city. That’s why Tempe remains so committed to offering arts and culture opportunities to local artists.

We're seeking artists to bring two Tempe Public Art projects to life over the next several months. Review the opportunities below or learn more at tempe.gov/ArtsJobs

Tempe Public Library Summer Reading

We invite professional artists to submit qualifications for a temporary installation at the Tempe Public Library. This opportunity requires an artist who can imagine the library as an installation site in total, engage with library staff and the public, and who is able to create a work of art that will enliven the imaginations of all who encounter it.

The selected artist will be asked to create a temporary art installation to be displayed throughout the entire library including both public levels. Artworks should enhance the library experience and provide big picture visuals for the site using the summer 2023 theme of “All Together Now: Kindness/Friendship” as its focus.

Closing Date: Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, at 11:59 p.m.
Compensation: Up to $20,000 (subject to review)

Fire Station 2
We invite professional artists to submit qualifications to create artwork for a newly designed fire station. The selected artist will be expected to work with the city, the architectural team and stakeholders to create meaningful artwork that honors the memory of Firefighter Tommy Arriaga, who worked as part of the team at Fire Station 2, until his death from a work-related cancer in 2019.

The selected artist will be required to work in construction grade materials (steel, concrete, glass) and to think of the artwork as a linear sculpture or applied casing. Murals or figurative sculpture are not appropriate for this commission.

Closing Date:  Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, at 11:59 p.m.
Compensation:  Up to $80,000
