City of Tempe : November Update from Councilmember Joel Navarro

Government and Politics

November 8, 2022

From: City of Tempe

Dear Tempe residents,

We’ve had a hiatus, but it is my pleasure to write to you all again!  My name is Joel Navarro. I am a Tempe native, a Marcos de Niza alum (Go Padres!), a husband to my beautiful wife Stephanie, father of three amazing kids, Henley Jillian, and Parker, a City of Phoenix Deputy Fire Chief, and last, but certainly not least, a councilmember who has had the honor of representing you on the Tempe City Council since 2008.

The City of Tempe is a special place. Over the last few months, I’ve had the opportunity to attend conferences across North America to talk about how special our city truly is.

In June, I served on the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Economic Delegation to Hermosillo, Mexico.  There, I formed bonds with elected officials to learn about how our city can partner with businesses in the Mexican province of Sonora.

In late July, I traveled to Atlanta to attend the 2022 National League of Cities Summer Board and Leadership Meeting. I chair the Public Safety and Crime Prevention Board.

While representing our city, I highlighted how we are using the latest law enforcement technology to reduce use of excessive force and presented on how the City of Tempe uses data to improve trust and transparency with communities served.
