The City of Tempe Housing Authority will begin accepting pre-applications for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program waitlist at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28. The pre-application process will be available online, although people requiring special assistance or who do not have internet access can call the city for assistance.

When the waitlit opens, pre-applications will be accepted through this link: https://www.waitlistcheck.com/AZ177-4067. Pre-applications will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. Monday, March 13.

“In the City of Tempe, we are committed to increasing access to affordable housing. The Housing Choice Voucher program offers a way to fulfill this commitment,” said Irma Hollamby Cain, deputy director for Community Health and Human Services.

The HCV Program, also known as Section 8, is a rental assistance program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Vouchers assist low-income families in renting apartments or homes on the private market. Utilizing the voucher, a person pays approximately 30–40% of income toward rent and utilities.

The demand for housing assistance often exceeds the limited resources available, and Tempe gives preferences to an individual or family who is (1) living or working in Tempe, (2) has been terminated from the City of Tempe’s program due to insufficient funding, or (3) been a victim of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault or stalking within the last five years.
