From: City of Tempe

You asked, Tempe provided. Tempe and Guadalupe residents can now recycle Styrofoam packaging chunks, blocks and coolers from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at the Household Products Collection Center (HPCC), 1320 E. University Drive.

Acceptable Styrofoam items are not bendable, firm to the touch and should produce white pellets when torn. Plates, cups, trays, peanuts or spongey foam are not eligible for recycling. StyrofoamTM  does not belong in the blue recycling bin and can contaminate the entire bin.

Tempe’s HPCC is a drive-thru facility that offers many recycling and environmentally responsible disposable options for Tempe and Guadalupe residents. In addition to Styrofoam, items residents can drop off include automotive products, electronics and appliances, household cleaning products, paints and solvents, pesticides and other household products. See the full list of accepted items at tempe.gov/HPCC.

Looking for free supplies? The HPCC also offers a SWAP program to keep common items out of the landfill. Partially used or new items such as paint, cleaning supplies, automotive products and lawn and garden fertilizers are available for free to Tempe and Guadalupe residents. Users are limited to 30 items or 30 gallons of free supplies per month.

When dropping off items at the HPCC, avoid mixing different products together and be careful transporting flammable or combustible materials. Items in plastic bags will not be accepted.

Proof of Tempe or Guadalupe residency through an ID or utility bill is required. The HPCC is closed on Zero Waste Days (ZWD), city-observed holidays and weekends following the city-observed holidays.
