Get involved and give back this fall!
Residents have plenty of opportunities to help others in need and also take care of their own health at events in Tempe throughout the fall season. Check out our calendar at tempe.gov for upcoming city and community events. Here are three to get you started in August and September.

Donate blood in August - and enter to win free gas for a year!

No one can operate on an empty tank, especially patients who need blood transfusions. Help those in need and as a special thanks, Vitalant will give donors a $6 gift card for a gallon of gas plus the chance to win one of five $3,000 gift cards. Offer good through Aug. 31. Details.

Support TCAA and seniors in need

Enjoy a delicious breakfast from local chef Jeff Kraus of Crepe Bar and learn about current and new initiatives with Tempe Community Action Agency's Senior Independence Program. Join the agency 8 - 10 a.m. Sept. 23 at Granite Reef Senior Center in Scottsdale. Get early bird ticket pricing, $30 per person, through Sept. 15. Details.

National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September

Join the 13th Annual Walk for POP Saturday, Sept. 24 at Kiwanis Park to celebrate prostate cancer survivors and honor those whose lives have been lost to this silent killing disease. Registration begins at 7 a.m.; walk starts at 8 a.m. The first 100 men to register will receive a FREE prostate cancer screening at the walk. The event features Vendor Village, plus food and entertainment. Registration fee is $25 per adult and $15 for walkers under age 12. T-shirt included in fee. Register here.

Don Carlos Humanitarian Awards

Join Tempe Community Council for the 39th annual Don Carlos Awards Oct. 12. Retired Tempe Fire Chief Cliff Jones is the 2022 Don Carlos Humanitarian of the Year. The Don Carlos Awards honors those who have made Tempe a better place to live by meeting human service needs. Details.

Labor Day closures

The City of Tempe will close all administrative offices on Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of Labor Day. Find out what else will be affected here.

Healing Field Sept. 9-11

Tempe will honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks with a display of patriotism and unity at the annual Healing Field tribute at Tempe Beach Park. The free event runs Friday, Sept. 9, through Sunday, Sept. 11. Activities throughout the three-day display include a concert, candlelight vigil and 5K run/walk. View the full schedule here.

University Drive, between Rural Road and McAllister Avenue, will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. intermittently throughout the month of September while ASU works on the finalizing its pedestrian bridge. Please use Apache Boulevard and Rio Salado Parkway as alternatives. Local bus routes 30 and 62 will be detoured. The closure will not affect ASU Home Football game traffic.

Have questions about college? We’re here to help. Tempe College Connect offers free weekly workshops and one-on-one advising to help students and their families prepare for college. Students who attend have the chance to win a $1,000 scholarship at the end of the school year! Register in advance and learn more here.

COVID-19 cases

Column 1: COVID-19 Cases by zip code are defined as new positive COVID-19 test results reported to Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) within the last month. These figures, as well as overall total cases, may still be found at AZDHS. Home tests would not be included in this figure.
Column 2: Percentage of the total number of people in each zip code who have received both doses of vaccine. This weekly data is provided by Maricopa County.
