City Of Tucson : Delivers - Prop 101 Progress Report

Government and Politics

May 14, 2022

From: City Of Tucson

This Progress Report focuses on Tucson Delivers Safer City/Better Streets projects, funded via a dedicated half-cent sales tax approved by voters in May 2017. While this initiative is slated to sunset in June, the City’s accountability to voters and delivering Safer City/Better Streets projects continues. A City program team tracks, monitors, and reports on this funding - sales tax revenue that exceeded projections by millions. Two citizen groups stay in place, providing accountability: the 2017 Public Safety Oversight Commission and the 2012 Bond Oversight Commission. This report demonstrates project momentum. Over the next 12 months watch out for crews repaving roads and working on police and fire facilities!

Over the last five years, revenue from the voter-approved sales tax for the Safer City/Better Streets initiative has exceeded targets. The city has been well-positioned to take advantage of Arizona’s sales tax for out-of-state and online companies – especially during the pandemic when online shopping skyrocketed. This revenue is committed to capital-intensive projects such as improving streets, rebuilding and remodeling facilities, and adding technology and equipment.

Tucson Delivers-related road and facility construction projects, the most time-intensive and costly investments, continue to be on track, with no delays. It takes six defined phases – each with review and sign off – to complete a construction project.
