MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEETINGS TOMORROW - Tucson's Mayor and Council will meet tomorrow, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m., for its Study Session, and will reconvene at 5:30 p.m. for the Regular Meeting. The Regular Meeting will also include the possible calling of a May 16 special election on a new franchise agreement proposal with Tucson Electric Power (TEP). The new 25-year-agreement would include a 3% franchise fee on monthly electric bills of TEP customers within the city, an increase from the current 2.25% fee. The extra revenue generated by the franchise fee hike (costing about $1 per month for the average residential customer) could be used to cover the cost of additional underground infrastructure and to fund efforts that support the City's Climate Action Plan. You can watch the meetings live (and recordings of previous meetings) on the City of Tucson's YouTube channel, and you can also view the agendas by following the links below.
