TUCSON MAYOR REGINA ROMERO CHOSEN FOR HIGHLY SELECTIVE FELLOWSHIP - Tucson Mayor Regina Romero was selected recently for the Class of 2023 Rodel Fellowship, considered the nation’s premier leadership development program for elected leaders. Each year, the program selects 24 outstanding state- and local-level leaders, divided between the political parties, to come together for a series of three multi-day seminars held over a two-year period. Working with leading scholars as moderators, the fellows read and discuss classic texts dealing with ethical values, democratic principles, and wise and effective leadership. Those texts include the Declaration of Independence, the preamble to the United States Constitution, and writings by Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., and many others.

SEE THE REID PARK MASTER PLAN AND TAKE THE FINAL SURVEY - View the final Reid Park Master Plan concept developed with community feedback over the last eight months, and take the online survey to give input on your priorities for funding future improvements at the park. The Master Plan is important to ensure that available resources are allocated efficiently and to the items of the highest priority. As future/ongoing reinvestments in the park are made, different funding sources will be used, as appropriate, for the project. State, federal, and local grants; private and nonprofit partnerships; and bonds are all likely sources of funding for capital improvements. The survey will close Dec. 19, at 11:59 p.m., Visit the park project website links below for more information.

TUCSON POLICE DEPARTMENT TO PARTICIPATE IN U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM - The U.S. Department of Justice recently selected the Tucson Police Department (TPD) to participate in the National Public Safety Partnership (PSP) program. In a news conference last week, Tucson Police Chief Chad Kasmar and U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona Gary M. Restaino announced the awarding of a three-year grant that will provide customized training and technical assistance to implement innovative approaches and share best practices to reduce violent crime. The PSP supports law enforcement and community partners in developing local jurisdictions’ own capacities to combat violent crime by evaluating crime problems, assessing intervention options, and implementing data-driven crime reduction strategies to improve overall public safety. Over the project period, Tucson and the PSP team will work together with criminal justice and community partners to reduce violent crime. REVERSE TRADE SHOW EDUCATES VENDORS (VIDEO) - Vendors recently attended a Reverse Trade Show to speak with public agencies and learn how to do business with them. Approximately 300 people attended this year's event held at the Tucson Convention Center, hosted by the Copper Chapter of NIGP (the Institute for Public Procurement). The Reverse Trade Show allowed businesses the opportunity to meet with procurement professionals from public procurement agencies at one time and in one location. Business representatives were able to roam through the event hall and meet with agency representatives in their booths while marketing their company’s products and services.
