MORE SUMMER POOLS OPEN DUE TO CITY'S SUCCESS IN RECRUITING LIFEGUARDS - The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department opened two more pools over the weekend, Oury and Palo Verde, in addition to the 10 pools that opened earlier this summer. The two pools were able to open due to the initial success of the City's enhanced recruiting efforts to hire additional lifeguards. The City increased lifeguard pay to $16.75/hour and has continued to hold lifeguard certification classes with the goal of hiring additional lifeguards to open more pools. Entrance to City pools will remain free throughout the summer. For more information on pool locations and hours, follow the top link below.

VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE NEXT WEEK - The deadline to register to vote in Arizona's primary election is Tuesday, July 5. The election will be held Aug. 2. Voting will be a bit different this year with the addition of Vote Centers in Pima County. Voters no longer have to cast ballots at their designated precincts and can vote in person at any of the centers throughout Pima County. With "e-pollbooks," a voter will go to any Vote Center, present their identification, and a Vote Center staff member will use the e-pollbook to scan the Driver License, which is the most common form of identification, and bring up the voter’s information. Allowable alternative forms of identification can also be used to find the voter. The system will then send the voter’s information to a ballot printer to print a ballot specific to the precinct in which the voter lives. Everything else about voting at a Vote Center is the same as voting at a precinct polling location. See a related story below.

Country Club Road. The first one was held June 24 and was deemed a success. The purpose is to demonstrate how the County’s new Vote Centers and voting equipment work. A mock election is a non-partisan, educational event held for the benefit of the public and political parties. The mock election also demonstrates voting procedures at Pima County’s Vote Centers. The public can participate in the mock election to experience the check-in process and other elements of Vote Center voting.

PIMA COUNTY'S 'TEST TO TREAT' PROGRAM CONTINUES FOR THOSE WITH COVID-19 - If you test positive for COVID-19 (on an at-home test or at a testing site) and meet certain eligibility requirements, you may be able to receive a prescription for a free oral antiviral treatment. This program is already available at some health care providers and clinics in our community, but to increase access, the Pima County Health Department recently implemented a free "Test to Treat" program available to everyone (no insurance card necessary). The walk-in service is at the Health Department’s East Clinic, 6920 E. Broadway Blvd. You can be evaluated by a provider at no cost if you test positive. If you already have a positive test, you can walk into the clinic or call (520) 724-7895 to discuss eligibility for treatment and get a prescription if you medically qualify. The clinic and the phone number are staffed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekends.
