City Of Tucson Awarded More Than $2m In Federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits To Leverage Private Investment For Affordable Housing - The City of Tucson recently was awarded nearly $2.1 million as part of a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program. Administered by the Arizona Department of Housing, the program enables local private developers to compete for federal tax credits to develop affordable housing units. The City of Tucson Department of Housing and Community Development created the nonprofit El Pueblo Housing Development, whose $19.8 million Milagro on Oracle project represents its first housing community. Milagro on Oracle will serve older adults in the Thrive in the '05 area. It includes the adaptive reuse of 15 apartments in single-story buildings currently or formerly used as motor courts, and there are 48 units in a newly built, four-story elevator building, creating 63 units. The project will also include 19 supportive housing units serving people 55 years of age or older who don't have a place to live. The project also ensures the preservation of two motor courts that have been designated as contributing to the Miracle Mile National Historic District.

Tucson Dedicates Its Newest Fire Station (Video) - In May 2017, voters approved the Tucson Delivers Safer City/Better Streets initiative, funded by a dedicated half-cent sales tax. While this initiative sunsets at the end of this month, the City’s accountability to voters and delivering Safer City/Better Streets projects, like the rebuilding of
Fire Station 9, continues. The dedication last week of the newly constructed facility represents a big change in the station that first opened at that location in the late 1960s. At that time, it had two equipment bays and a staff of six people. Today, the new Fire Station 9 (on South Wilmot Road, between 22nd Street and Broadway Boulevard) boasts a minimum of 16 people a day, 19,250 square feet, 17 dorm rooms, eight apparatus bays, a new dispatch system, a dedicated turnout gear room, and decontamination areas. Watch the video linked below to see highlights of the dedication.
