CITY OF TUCSON ANNOUNCES NEW TUCSON WATER DIRECTOR - Tucson City Manager Michael Ortega, with concurrence from Mayor and Council this week, named John P. Kmiec as the new director of Tucson Water. Kmiec is a longtime water leader in Arizona. His career spans four decades, with an emphasis on water resource management, utility leadership, and addressing water quality challenges for the Tucson community. Throughout his career, and during his tenure as the director of Marana Water from 2012-2019, Kmiec amplified efforts to shape Arizona’s long-term vision and policy about sustainable water supplies, water quality, and the principle that all water has value. Tucson Water serves more than 740,000 people in the Tucson basin and has implemented one of the most successful and notable water conservation programs in the United States.

TUCSON PARKS AND RECREATION CONTINUES INAUGURAL WEEK OF TRACK AND FIELD AND ROAD RACES IN JUNE AND JULY - Tucson Parks and Recreation is hosting the annual Summer Track and Field and Road Races every Tuesday and Thursday in June and July. Track and Field events take place at Drachman Stadium, 501 S. Plumer Ave., every Tuesday, June 7-July 19, beginning at 7 p.m. Road Races take place at various locations every Thursday, starting tonight at 6 o'clock, through July 21. Tonight's inaugural races will be at Reid Park (southwest corner of Country Club Road and 22nd Street). The cost is $3 per youth (17 years and younger) and $4 per adult (18 years and older). HHW/DOCUMENT SHREDDING EVENT THIS WEEKEND - The City of Tucson's Environmental and General Services Department (EGSD) is hosting its monthly Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event this Saturday, June 11, from 8 a.m.-noon, at Hi Corbett Field, 700 S. Randolph Way. City residents can drop off HHW, electronic waste, paper documents for shredding (limit 3 boxes), and glass bottles and jars at no charge. Unknown chemicals will not be accepted. The event is free for City of Tucson residents with proof of address. Residents from Marana, Oro Valley, Sahuarita, and unincorporated Pima County will be charged a $10 fee to drop off materials. EGSD hosts HHW collection events on the second Saturday of every month in different areas across Tucson. 2ND SATURDAYS DOWNTOWN THIS WEEKEND - 2nd Saturdays Downtown returns Saturday, June 11, from 5-10 p.m. Enjoy live music, street performers, restaurants, and street vendors. You can use the free Sun Link streetcar to move easily through the downtown area.

FREE CONCERT IN THE PARK THIS WEEKEND - Gene C. Reid Park is alive with music for one more show in June. The Tucson Pops Orchestra hosts its final Music Under the Stars on Sunday, June 12, at 7 p.m. at the Gene C. Reid Park's George DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center, East 22nd Street and South Country Club Road. The show is under the baton of László Veres, who curates, coordinates, and conducts the ensemble.
