CITY HOLIDAY CLOSURES MONDAY - All City of Tucson offices, except for emergency services, will be closed Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day. Residential and commercial trash and recycling will not be collected on Monday, and all collections will be delayed by one day. The Los Reales Sustainability Campus (landfill) will be open on Monday. Sun Tran, Sun Van, and the Sun Link streetcar will operate on a Sunday schedule on Monday.

COOLING CENTERS TO OPEN IN TUCSON - When temperatures reach 110 degrees, the City of Tucson will open six cooling centers, one in each city council ward. The centers will be open from noon-6 p.m., only on days when the temperature benchmark is met. The centers will be located at Donna Liggins Center, 2160 N. 6th Ave.; El Pueblo Center, 101 W. Irvington Road; El Rio Center, 1390 W. Speedway Blvd; Morris K. Udall Center, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road; Randolph Center, 200 S. Alvernon Way; and William M. Clements Center, 8155 E. Poinciana Drive. Additionally, the Tucson Pima Collaboration to End Homelessness has compiled a list of additional cooling stations and locations for water and supplies. TUCSON PARKS AND RECREATION HIRING LIFEGUARDS TO OPEN MORE CITY POOLS THIS SUMMER - Tucson Parks and Recreation is looking to hire approximately 200 more lifeguards to open additional pools this summer. The City plans to open 10 pools in June and July, while other pool locations remain closed due to a lifeguard shortage. Positions include lifeguard and WSI/senior lifeguard. The positions require American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification or equivalent. The City offers Lifeguard Certification classes for free and will continue to add more based on need. If classes are full, you can join the wait list.

GRAND OPENING TOMORROW FOR A NEW SPLASH PAD AT PURPLE HEART PARK - Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, Ward 4 Council Member Nikki Lee, and Tucson Parks and Recreation invite you to celebrate the completion of a new splash pad at Purple Heart Park, 9800 E. Rita Road, tomorrow, May 27, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. This project, located next to the existing pool, marks the City’s sixth splash pad. It was made possible through Tucson Delivers 2018 voter-approved Proposition 407 bond funds and Impact Fees. Improvements include a new splash pad area, perimeter fencing, five shade umbrella structures, seating, an accessible entrance, and landscaping and irrigation improvements. The grand opening celebration will include free pizza, eegee's, an inflatable obstacle course, bounce house, games, music, and giveaways of backpacks filled with school supplies, courtesy of Council Member Lee. The pool will also be open from 1-4 p.m.

FREE CONCERTS IN THE PARKS THIS WEEKEND - Gene C. Reid Park and Morris K. Udall Park are alive with music throughout May and June. The Tucson Pops Orchestra hosts Music Under the Stars on Sundays, through June 12, at 7 p.m. at the Gene C. Reid Park's George DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center, East 22nd Street and South Country Club Road. The show is under the baton of László Veres, who curates, coordinates, and conducts the ensemble. In addition, The Arizona Symphonic Winds will host Music at the Park on Saturdays, through June 4, at 7 p.m. at the László Veres Amphitheater at Udall Park, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road.
