VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE TOMORROW - The deadline to register to vote in Arizona's general election is tomorrow, Oct. 11. The election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8. Voters who choose not to vote by mail do not have to cast ballots at their designated precincts and can vote in-person at any of the new Vote Centers throughout Pima County. With "e-pollbooks," a voter will go to any Vote Center, present their identification, and the system will print a ballot specific to the precinct in which the voter lives. Everything else about voting at a Vote Center is the same as a precinct polling location.

MAYOR ROMERO VISITED WHITE HOUSE LAST WEEK - Tucson Mayor Regina Romero joined other elected and community leaders from Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and Colorado last Friday, Oct. 7, to participate in the Communities in Action: Building a Better America meeting in Washington, D.C. Mayor Romero shared the stories of the people who benefited directly from the Biden administration’s funding of the American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law investments in Tucson. These stories included the experiences of Tucson’s small business community, restaurant owners, nonprofits, and working families who used federal funding to survive the pandemic and recover. Romero also spoke about residents who will have safer and direct access to school and work with the rebuilding of the 22nd Street bridge and expansion of electric vehicle (EV) buses.

IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL PUBLIC MEETINGS SCHEDULED THIS WEEK TO LEARN ABOUT POTENTIAL UPDATES TO DOWNTOWN INFILL INCENTIVE DISTRICT - The City of Tucson's Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD) is currently working on updates to the City's Downtown Infill Incentive District (IID), a zoning option for Downtown Tucson. This zoning option is a valuable tool to promote infill development and has helped bring more than 1,000 new housing units and new jobs and businesses downtown and along the streetcar route. Potential updates to the IID would make it easier to use the overlay to build housing and create an incentive for affordable housing. Join an in-person public meeting tomorrow, Oct. 11, from 5:30-7 p.m., at the Sentinel Building, 310 N. Commerce Park Loop, to learn about and provide feedback on potential updates to the IID. Please RSVP before attending. You can also join a virtual meeting Thursday, Oct. 13. Read the news release linked below for the time and registration information for that meeting.
