DEADLINE APPROACHING TO VIEW THREE CONCEPT PLANS FOR GENE C. REID PARK AND PROVIDE FEEDBACK - The Gene C. Reid Park planning team needs your help to reimagine the future of Reid Park. Survey Two for the Reid Park planning process is now live at the English and Spanish links below. View the three park concept alternatives, and take a feedback survey to provide input into the final master plan. The survey will close this Friday, Sept. 30, at 11:59 p.m. The Master Plan will provide an aspirational road map for Gene C. Reid Park's long-term evolution. The plan will be used to help guide future investments in the park with the confidence that they fit into a larger strategic vision. Having a park Master Plan is important to ensure that available resources are allocated efficiently and to the items of the highest priority. As future/ongoing reinvestments in the park are made, different funding sources will be used, as appropriate, for the project. State, federal, and local grants; private and nonprofit partnerships; and bonds are all likely sources of funding for capital improvements.

BARRIO BLUE MOON NEIGHBORS TO TRANSFORM INTERSECTION AT BLOCK PAINTING PARTY SATURDAY - The first Thrive in the 05 Action Activity community improvement project (part of the Thrive in the 05 Transformation Plan) will take place in Barrio Blue Moon neighborhood this Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The Thrive project, a collaboration of Housing and Community Development (HCD) department and Living Streets Alliance, is a block party for residents to transform the intersection of Helen Street and 14th Avenue by painting a colorful traffic circle that will beautify the street and calm traffic to improve safety. The design is by Barrio Blue Moon artist Armando Sotelo III, whose imagery is inspired by Native wisdom in the lunar calendar, represented with the shell of a turtle. Flex posts and large planters will surround the mural, delineating a traffic circle that will serve to slow down cars. There will be free food, and music will be provided by DJ Aqua. Residents are encouraged to bring their bicycles for free repair provided by BICAS. This is the first of nine Action Activity events coming to Thrive in the 05.

TEAM UP TO CLEAN UP NEXT MONTH AT MANUEL HERRERA JR. PARK - Join the City of Tucson and Tucson Clean and Beautiful on Friday, Oct, 7, from 8 -10 a.m., for our next cleanup event. Find staff at the park pavilion, ready with supplies to help clean up the park perimeter, 12th Avenue between West Calle Alvord to West Bilby Road, and the nearby wash. Connect with staff from the Department of Transportation and Mobility, who will be on-site helping to host the cleanup. The Reid Park Zoo education team will kickoff the cleanup with an important message on healthy habitats for our wildlife. Native species, like box turtles and chuckwallas, need healthy habitats in order to survive. We can help our native species by putting trash in its proper place and helping to clean spaces that are used by both people and animals. Join this month's cleanup to meet these two species in person and learn more about how they survive in our desert and play a role in immediately affecting the future survival of their species by cleaning the park.
