Paxlovid is Pfizer’s powerful COVID-19 pill and has become the go-to option to treat COVID-19 because of its at-home convenience and impressive results in heading off severe disease. It has been shown to cut the risk of COVID-19 hospitalization or death by up to 90%. There have now been reports of COVID-19 rebound occurring between 2 and 8 days after initial recovery from COVID-19 after use of Paxlovid. COVID-19 rebound is characterized by a recurrence of COVID-19 symptoms or a new positive viral test after having tested negative.

The CDC said those initially treated with the pill who experience rebound COVID had mild illness and there's currently no evidence additional treatment is needed. Paxlovid continues to be recommended for early-stage treatment of mild to modrate COVID-19 among persons at high risk for progression to severe disease. Treatment helps prevent hospitalization and death due to COVID-19. See more info and recommendations from the Health Department and CDC here
