Cole Statement on FBI Raid at Mar-a-Lago

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) issued the following statement in reaction to the FBI’s raid at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence this week.

“The FBI’s unprecedented raid on the home of a former president should concern every American regardless of their political affiliation,” said Cole. “Absent a clear, full and compelling explanation for this extraordinary action, the public will begin to believe that the FBI and the Department of Justice have been deployed against a political opponent of the current Administration for political purposes. Nothing could be more dangerous and inappropriate.

“So far neither the Department of Justice nor the FBI have offered any public explanation or justification for their actions. That must change immediately. I call upon the agencies in question to appear before the appropriate committees in Congress at once to explain their actions and justify this unprecedented move on the part of the FBI. The American people and the Congress deserve a complete accounting of this extraordinary action. So far neither the FBI nor the Department of Justice have chosen to provide one.”
