SAVING COLORADANS MONEY, SUPPORTING COLORADO BUSINESSES

Some of my top priorities are saving Coloradans money and supporting Colorado businesses. This year, I signed HB22-1001 to make it only one dollar to start a business in Colorado. I am thrilled that this new money-saving plan has reduced costs for so many Colorado entrepreneurs, creating more than 10,000 new businesses in July alone. As an entrepreneur, I know that every dollar counts when getting a business off the ground. Last week, I heard from 3 new business owners who were able to file for just $1. Read more here.

I also had a chance to visit several small businesses last week, including newly opened Miss Molly’s Bakery and bb.q Chicken, as well as several businesses in Denver’s 5 Points neighborhood, including Duke’s Good Sandwiches, Scratch Family Bakery, Agave Shore, and Bodies by Perseverance.

$750 REBATES - IT’S NOT TOO LATE

I encourage anyone who hasn’t yet filed your taxes for 2021 to visit a free tax prep site across the State for help with filing.

These workshops will take place around the state on the following Saturdays: August 20, September 17, and October 8. Click here to find a location near you. You can still file by October 17 to receive your $750 rebate.

REDUCING EMISSIONS AND SAVING SCHOOLS MONEY

I encouraged Colorado schools to apply for the EPA grant to electrify school buses to reduce pollution and save our schools money. These grants will cover the upfront costs of an electric school bus. The State of Colorado will be providing $65 million in grant funding to support electric school buses and infrastructure. Click here to learn more. Applications for EPA funding close on, August 19.

BACK TO SCHOOL!

This week I visited Lake County Elementary School in Leadville to welcome students back for the new school year, and to thank teachers for their dedication to our schools and children.

INVESTING IN COLORADO KIDS

With Colorado Cash Back checks reaching mailboxes around the state, I want to highlight CollegeInvest as an exciting opportunity for parents of young children to double your $750 or $1500 and start saving for your child’s higher education today. Coloradans with a child born or adopted after January 1st, 2020 can sign up now to get a free $100 credit with dollar-for-dollar matching of $1000 per year for the next 5 years after that. Click here to learn more.

RISE GRANT APPLICATION NOW OPEN

Earlier this week, I announced the final round of application for the RISE Fund grants, which help improve student learning, close equity gaps, and enhance efficiency in schools. Applications, FAQ, and more information can be found here.

MONEY-SAVING LAWS GOING INTO EFFECT

Several exciting laws are going into effect in Colorado. HB22-1055 will end the sales tax on diapers and feminine hygiene products permanently and start saving people money on these necessary products. HB22-1285 protects consumers and ensures hospitals in Colorado show their prices, improves surprise medical billing protections, and saves people money.
