Community Museum Heats Up With Free Summer Programs

Gaithersburg, MD (June 6, 2022) The Gaithersburg Community Museum hosts a variety of free family-friendly programs this summer. Located in the restored 1884 B&O Railroad Station complex near the intersection of Summit and Diamond Avenues in Olde Towne, the Museum features educational exhibits designed to spark interest and imagination about our City's history. 

Flag Day

Tuesday, June 14, 7 p.m.

American flag retirement ceremony – Gaithersburg Boy Scout Troop 1760

School’s Out Celebration

Friday, June 17, 1 – 3 p.m.

Celebrate summer with fun and games at the Interactive Water Feature at Olde Towne Plaza.

Drop-in Weekends

11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Free activities at the Museum.

- June 11 & 12 - Celebrating Pollinators

- June 19 - Celebrating Juneteenth

- June 25 & 26 - Heritage Days – Activities both days, with Charlie Lowry singing heritage music on Saturday, and Tales of Hobos presented by Matthew Dodd on Sunday

Storytime Station

Tuesdays, 11 a.m.

Books, songs, and movement with take-home activity sheets for ages 3-6

Inquiring Minds

Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.

Hands-on activities for ages 5 and older.

- July 21 - Fun with STEAM - Science experiments and STEAM activities.

- July 28 - Fun with Pets - Meet pets and make toys for shelter animals.

- August 4 - Fun with Recycling - Exchange an old lightbulb for an LED one, then turn the old one into a beautiful craft.

- August 11 - Fun with Flight - Science and art collide with aviation activities.

Interactive Water Feature Hours

Cool off in the City’s historic commercial center at Olde Towne Plaza. This inviting space has a fountain for frolicking, benches for lounging, and shaded Adirondack chairs for relaxing.
