Says abandoning Taiwan is an “unfortunate consequence of money diplomacy”

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today took note of the decision by Honduras to formally establish diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China and to abandon them with the Republic of China (Taiwan), and made the following statement:

“Honduras’ cynical decision to abandon its ties with Taiwan and establish diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China is the unfortunate consequence of money diplomacy and the Chinese Communist Party’s hegemonic aspirations. In response, I reiterate my strong support for continued United States support and commitment to our ally Taiwan.”
