Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) is teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Association of Western New York to host an informational luncheon in recognition of National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month & Family Caregivers Month. Caring for a loved one with memory loss can be exceptionally demanding. The event will provide caregivers with information on tools and resources available to support families dealing with all forms of dementia.

The event will be held on Monday, November 21st, from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at the City of Tonawanda Senior Center, 35 Main Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150.

To register for the event visit: tinyurl.com/caregiverton or call 1-800-272-3900.

In addition to an informational session led by the Alzheimer’s Association of Western New York and an update on Congressional action by Rep. Higgins, organizations including the Center for Elder Law and Justice and NY Connects will be on hand to answer questions and provide more information about the community resources available for those dealing with memory loss and family caregivers.

Congressman Higgins is leading bipartisan legislation to help families across the country dealing with Alzheimer’s disease. The Comprehensive Care for Alzheimer’s Act (H.R. 2517) would create a new way to fund dementia care through Medicare. This new model could help reduce hospitalizations and emergency department visits and delay nursing home placement, which improves the quality of life for patients and makes treatment more affordable for families.

One in ten seniors in the United States struggles with Alzheimer’s disease, and that number is expected to double to 14 million Americans in the next 30 years.
