Congressman Lee Zeldin Slams Hochul for Failure to Fire Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg After He Released Man Who Then Attempted to Rape 15-Year-Old

Zeldin Again Calls on Hochul to Repeal Dangerous Cashless Bail Law

NEW YORK – Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), the Republican Party and Conservative Party nominee for Governor, issued the following statement slamming Governor Kathy Hochul for her continued refusal to fire Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg after he released a robbery suspect – Anthony Ibanez – by downgrading his charges and releasing him on cashless bail, before Ibanez then allegedly attempted to rape a 15-year-old:

“While Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg continues his refusal to enforce the law, everyday New Yorkers are paying the price. Kathy Hochul has the authority to fire Alvin Bragg and protect New Yorkers, but time and time again she has refused to even criticize him for his refusal to do his job. In fact, she said we should cut him some slack. New Yorkers can’t afford to cut him some slack and the Ibanez case is just the most recent in a long line of stories that illustrate exactly why. I won’t stand on the sidelines. On Day 1, I’ll tell Alvin Bragg he’s fired, and fight tooth and nail to repeal cashless bail and secure our streets.”
