WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) announced that the U.S. Department of the Interior has committed more than $417 million for 47 projects across Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin to protect public lands and invest in expanded outdoor recreation opportunities from trail development at Red Rock Canyon to the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s conservation efforts at the Warm Springs Natural Area.

“Nevada is home to some of our nation’s most beautiful public lands, and this funding will ensure that these cherished areas are protected and accessible to be enjoyed by all,” said Congresswoman Lee. “Nevada is on the frontlines of this climate crisis, facing record heatwaves and the worst drought in the West in 12 centuries. Now is the time to invest in conservation. And as a world-class outdoor recreation destination, this funding will help grow local outdoor economies across our state and contribute to vital economic diversification for our region’s future.”

Provided by land sales under the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA), this funding will support recreation improvement, wildlife habitat conservation, hazardous fuels reduction, wildfire prevention, and other purposes, according to the Department of the Interior. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, Congresswoman Lee has consistently fought to protect SNPLMA funding to ensure that this important program can continue to benefit Nevadans.
