Congresswoman Tenney's Statement Regarding The Continued Tensions In The Western Balkans

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) co-chair of the Congressional Serbia Caucus, released the following statement in regard to continued tensions in the Western Balkans.

“Ongoing tensions in the Western Balkans are troubling and concerning,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “The United States and the European Union continue to support efforts to defuse the crisis in Kosovo following the government in Pristina’s move to impose a restrictive license plate policy on the Serbian population in the province. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Serbia Caucus, I welcome efforts by the U.S. Department of State and the European Union to postpone the implementation of this policy in a manner that is constructive. I urge that no unilateral moves be taken by Kosovo and that the delay be extended until Serbia and Kosovo return to the negotiating table, and a final agreement is achieved."

“To de-escalate this crisis, we must ensure the full protection of human and political rights of all minorities in Kosovo, especially the Serbian civilian minority population, in accordance with international law and our shared democratic values. Our partners in the Western Balkans must engage diplomatically. The Biden Administration should also ensure that America continues to engage constructively and proactively in the region to advance peace between all parties, building on the successes of the previous Administration. It is time to return to the negotiating table in a constructive manner that embraces our shared vision of a stable and prosperous Western Balkans region.”
