Connecticut Food Bank News: A Weekend Is a Long Time to Face Hunger

Clubs and Organizations

August 16, 2018

There are more than 117,000 children in Connecticut who rely on free or reduced-price school meals during the week. They face weekends where they might not have enough to eat until Monday morning at school.

With support from friends like you, the Connecticut Food Bank helps feed these children through programs like our Kids’ BackPack Program. Every Friday, their backpacks are filled with nutritious food for the weekend.

I wanted to share a note about the program that was sent to me from a teacher at one of our local elementary schools:

"The BackPack program is a great program for students who display signs of extreme need for extra food. It is providing extra support to children and their families who would otherwise have nothing on weekends."

More children can have this outcome with your support. A gift of $24 will provide a child with a backpack for an entire month.
