Connecticut Food Bank News: Five Thousand Turkeys Needed

Five thousand turkeys still needed!

Thanksgiving is only six days away and we're concerned that we won't have enough turkeys for needy families this holiday. Last year, we distributed 25,100 turkeys and 240,000 pounds of trimmings in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. We currently have a little more than 19,000 turkeys which is not enough to meet this year's increased need.

This Thanksgiving, turkeys and trimmings are needed more than ever. Our network of food pantries and soup kitchens are experiencing an increase in requests in part due to the November 1 cuts to SNAP (food stamps) benefits. And time is running out.

To help ensure no one goes without a holiday meal, we are making it easier for you to help your hungry neighbors. You can donate a turkey and all the fixins' with just a click of your mouse at our "Thanksgiving for All" virtual food drive. There you can select a "virtual" turkey for $10, or buy a case of green beans, cranberry sauce and more.

The dollars donated on November 22, 2013 and over the next few days will enable us to procure the exact items we need so more Connecticut families can enjoy the holiday and truly make it a "Thanksgiving for All."
