The District 30 State Representative says Florida will continue its strong partnership with the U.S. territory to help it rebuild and grow stronger following Hurricane Maria.
Tallahassee, FL -- Puerto Rico's Governor Ricardo Rossello and Secretary of Education Julia Keleher have recently announced plans for significant reforms to the territory's education system. On Feb 6th, State Representative Bob Cortes, whose leadership has been at the forefront of state efforts to assist Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria last year, made the following statement regarding Florida's ongoing partnership with Puerto Rico.
“Governor Rossello and Secretary Keleher are making a move in the right direction for the students of Puerto Rico, and we stand ready in Florida to assist them in any way possible. Expanding school choice has been the right move for our state, and we look forward to working with the Puerto Rico Department of Education to provide any information on our education policy and other school choice-related matters that would be of help to them as they move forward. Governor Rossello and Secretary Keleher’s leadership will help ensure that every Puerto Rican student has the opportunity to live up to his or her full potential, and we applaud them.”
