Council Workshop On Forward Together Recommendations

Government and Politics

August 10, 2022

From: City Of Modesto

Nearly a year ago, the Modesto City Council launched Forward Together – an engagement initiative on policing in Modesto, in response to both local and national events. The 27-member work group of volunteers, representing a range of community constituencies, addressed three focus areas identified by the Council following the May 22, 2021, Listening Session:

- Alternative Response Models
- Policies and Procedures
- Police Accountability

As part of this effort, a series of public meetings were held to develop recommendations relative to the three focus areas. On June 15, 2022, Forward Together members adopted their final recommendations at their last workgroup meeting held at Modesto Center Plaza. Since then, committee members have shared their recommendations report with a variety of community groups and stakeholders.

The Modesto City Council will hold a workshop on August 11 at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers, located in the basement at 1010 10th Street, in Downtown Modesto. Members of the Forward Together workgroup will present their recommendations at the workshop, and members of the public will have the opportunity to once again provide public comments on the recommendations. Following the Council Workshop, the Forward Together report will be placed on an upcoming regular council agenda where the public will be able to provide additional comments before Council accepts the report.

The Final Report is available online for greater detail in English and Spanish on the City’s Forward Together website.
