Aurora, CO - Last Saturday Daniel Newman (aka: Hawaiian Punch) walked away $10,000 richer at the 23rd annual $10,000 Trout Tournament presented by Cabela's and the city of Aurora. Others won thousands of dollars in prizes and gift cards for catching fish at Aurora Reservoir.
Newman, who prefers to be called Hawaiian Punch, was decked out in his signature floral print shirt as he accepted his check. The shirt was decidedly a lucky charm at the tournament since he caught the winning trout weighing 4.012 pounds.
"This character was entertaining and he knew he had something special when he brought his trout to the weigh-in station," said event organizer Tim Erickson, referring to Newman. "He had the biggest smile and was so anxious throughout the remainder of the tournament, hoping that no other anglers had reeled in a fish that topped his own great catch."
Prizes for both youth and adult divisions were awarded including gift packages, airfare, fishing poles and other equipment for anglers. Here's how the prizes were divided:
