Daniel Philip Meuser Weekly Update - July 24, 2022

Government and Politics

July 26, 2022

Welcome to our Weekend Update.

This week, I was in Washington, D.C., where the Biden administration and Congressional Democrats are taking up issues designed to distract us from the real problems facing American families.

Meanwhile, the real issue facing Americans hasn't changed, and they are crushing hardworking families. Inflation, high gas prices, and our border crisis are significant issues that merit immediate attention. Inflation soared 9.1% in June, the most significant increase since 1981. American families and small businesses are struggling to stay afloat amid skyrocketing prices. Gas prices remain high, and the number of illegal immigrants apprehended at the southern border is at record highs.

I joined Newsmax to discuss this inflation and the issues Democrats focus on instead of addressing. Click here or below to watch my interview.

The worst part about all these issues is that we know how to address these issues in a meaningful way. President Donald Trump’s administration had our country’s economy humming before the Covid-19 pandemic, and his policies and America First agenda had us well on the road to recovery in 2020. Rather than follow suit so our nation can continue winning, Biden has implemented an America Last agenda. We can and must fix this. Biden must admit his policies have failed our country and address these issues by removing regulations and policies that have shut down new domestic energy production. We need to support American small businesses and reinvigorate manufacturing, so we start making things in America with American workers. We must never leave our nation beholden to our enemies for energy and critical resources. That means lowering taxes and eliminating unnecessary and burdensome regulations. Perhaps, most importantly, as it relates to national security, we must secure our southern border, build a wall, and reimplement the Remain in Mexico policy negotiated during the Trump administration. We must work with the Mexican border as former President Trump did.

Earlier this week, I joined the ranking member of the House Agricultural Committee, Congressman G.T. Thompson, as he led a Farm Bill briefing. He was joined by Conference Chair Elise Stefanik and American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duval. The Farm bill will be important in 2023. Our farmers have a critically important role as they are responsible for feeding our nation.

Speaking of our agricultural industry, I would also like to send a message to one of the most influential agricultural leaders in the  Commonwealth, Schuylkill County Commissioner Boots Heatherington. Boots was injured working on the farm but is thankfully recovering. Thanks to farmers like Boots, we have the best quality and quantity of food in the world, but we should be reminded how dangerous farming can be. Get well soon, Boots!

This week, I spoke with dozens of fantastic Pennsylvania small businesses at the Goldman Sachs 10k Small Business Summit at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

We discussed the many challenges facing small businesses today and how we can address them moving forward.

I enjoyed meeting this week with former Vice President Mike Pence. The Vice President is a great American and always encouraging and inspiring. (Pictured with Vice President Pence and my good friend and colleague Congressman Greg Pence of Indiana. Greg and I were both part of the congressional class of 2019)

IN NEWS YOU WON’T HEAR IN THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA: Drug cartels and human smugglers thrive under Joe Biden's border crisis as deadly fentanyl and illegal immigrants pour into the country. As a result, American families and small businesses are less safe due to Biden’s open border agenda – yet he doesn’t care.

Background:

- In June, 207,416 illegal immigrants were apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, making this the highest number of June apprehensions in DHS history.

-- It’s a 9 percent increase over last June and a 310 percent increase from the average number of June apprehensions during the Trump administration.

-- Since Biden took office, more than 3.9 million illegal immigrants have been caught attempting to cross the border.

-- This includes the 3.1 million illegal immigrants that Customs and Border Protection has apprehended and the nearly 800,000 getaways that have escaped into the U.S. undetected.

-- 621 pounds of deadly fentanyl – the equivalent of more than 140 million  lethal doses – were seized at the southern border in June alone, with much more likely getting through

AROUND THE DISTRICT:
I attended the Wyoming county GOP golf tournament. We must support our local county parties as they lead in organizing and activating our grassroots efforts. (Pictured below with Wyoming County Commissioner Rick Wilbur, State Rep. Tina Pickett, State Senator Lisa Baker, and Wyoming GOP Chair Davis Haire)

I joined Brian Clements for some trap shooting in Berks County. It is always great to enjoy the outdoors in our beautiful District.

The Carbon Career & Technical Institute (CCTI) honored an outstanding graduate this week at a special presentation. Matthew Kuznicki of Lehighton, a graduate of Lehighton High School and CCTI, earned a gold medal at the SkillsUSA National Competition in Atlanta in the CNC Turning Specialist category. He will attend Thaddeus Stevens College this fall. Our office was pleased to present him with an entry from The Congressional Record, noting his success. Great job, Matthew!

On July 23rd, I stopped by the Hughesville Fair in Lycoming County. (Pictured below with GOP worker Ryan Durkee and new Lycoming County GOP chair Don Peters) Don walked us around the fair, and we got the opportunity to meet many great Lycoming County residents who love agriculture.

Later, we headed to Montoursville for the Lycoming Patriots Freedom Festival. I spoke about the importance of taking back control of the U.S. House and getting our Republican candidates from the top of the ticket to the bottom elected this fall.

Republicans must win in November and get this country and commonwealth back on the right track. We must continue to work hard, stay united and get our country back. So vote Red in November and tell your friends, family, and neighbors to do the same.

Thank you, and keep up the faith and the fight,

Dan Meuser
